Women United Grant Sparks New Food Security Series for Local Families

Have you heard? We can launch a new food security and social connection series thanks to a 2025 Women United Grant from United Way Simcoe Muskoka!
Kitchen Conversations, for women who are the primary caregivers of children in low-income and food-insecure households, is a new opportunity inspired by our Kitchen Connections classes for adults with developmental disabilities.
In 2026, women will gather each month to build their budgeting, shopping, and nutrition skills and social connections, while preparing healthy, cost-conscious meals to both share and take home. Plus, thanks in part to an additional grant from the Town of Huntsville, each woman who completes the series will receive an Instant Pot to take home.
We are offering 2 six-month series for up to 12 women per series. That’s up to 24 women total.
Kitchen Conversations aims to address 2 concerns we hear increasingly from families — food insecurity and isolation.
These classes could lead to women sharing experiences and solutions for a stronger future for themselves and their families.
It’s about boosting physical and mental health through financial support, friendship, and food.
Thank you, United Way Simcoe Muskoka Women United!
