Keep Our Community Moving | Vehicle Fund
Reliable transportation changes everything.
Our vehicles help people get to appointments, meet friends, join community activities, and feel included.
For many people we support, there are limited accessible transportation options, and our vehicles are often the only way to get out and participate in everyday life.
Our goal: $130,000 every year
We need ongoing funding to keep a safe, reliable fleet on the road.
-
- We currently have 5 vehicles (and 1 is not in use right now)
- We need 6 vehicles to meet community needs
- Each vehicle should be replaced about every 6 years
- That means we need to fund one vehicle every year – either a replacement or an addition
This year’s priority: a wheelchair-accessible van
Wish list: a standard van to support events and community connection
Why accessible vans need replacing more often
Wheelchair-accessible vans work hard – every day.
Some days, up to 15 people may rely on our wheelchair-accessible transportation.
These vehicles also have specialized equipment with many moving parts, such as ramps or lifts and securement systems.
With heavy use, those parts experience more wear and tear and become costly to repair.
Most importantly, accessible vans are essential. When they are unavailable, people can miss appointments, lose opportunities, and feel isolated.
Your donation helps people …
-
- Get to appointments and essential supports
- Join activities, events, and social experiences
- Build friendships and confidence in the community
- Stay safe with reliable, well-maintained transportation
Transportation is not “extra.” It is access. It is belonging.
What your support funds
Donations to the Vehicle Fund help cover:
-
- Purchase of a new or replacement vehicle
- Accessibility features (ramps/lifts and securement systems)
- Safety equipment and upgrades
- Licensing, outfitting, and readiness for daily use
We work hard to find best-value pricing and maximize every dollar through careful planning and maintenance.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why do you need to replace vehicles every 6 years?
Because our vehicles are used often and must be safe and dependable. Waiting too long increases repair costs and the risk of service interruptions.
Why is a wheelchair-accessible van the top priority?
Accessible transportation options are limited in the community. Accessible taxis are limited to non-existent. Modified public transit is in high demand, books up days if not weeks in advance, and ends weekdays at 5:00 PM with no weekend service. When our accessible van is down, people may have no practical alternative.
How many vehicles do you need?
We currently have 5 vehicles, but 1 is not in use right now. To meet needs, we require 6 vehicles.
Can I donate in honour of someone or make a monthly gift?
Yes. Monthly gifts help us plan ahead and replace vehicles on schedule.
Help keep the doors to community life open
When you support this campaign, you help people show up – at appointments, activities, events, and moments that matter. A reliable vehicle means someone can participate, belong, and live a fuller life in the community.
